Frequently Asked Questions
Care & Clinical Support
Who provides the childcare and coaching?
All activities are led by autism-trained professionals, including Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and qualified volunteers. Licensed Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) oversee programming.
How are the activities individualized for my child?
We use your prequalification intake questionnaire to customize every activity. We match your child’s communication style, sensory needs, and personal goals.
How does the Zoom consultation work?
You can schedule virtual sessions with experienced BCBAs during your stay. They provide real-time coaching, answer behavioral questions, and help refine routines.
General Stay & Accommodations
Will we be separated from our child during the stay?
No. Families stay together in private, fully equipped apartment-style accommodations. You control your schedule while accessing support when needed.
What do the accommodations look like?
Rooms are designed with sensory-friendly layouts, secure environments, and calming aesthetics. They feel like a warm, welcoming home rather than a clinic.
Can siblings attend the retreat?
Yes. Gentle Waves is designed for the entire family unit. We offer inclusive activities so siblings can have fun and recharge too.
Safety & Eligibility
What if my child has severe behavioral challenges?
Our intake process ensures we can safely support your child. The screening helps us prepare the right staffing ratios and customized de-escalation tools.
Is medical staff available on site?
We provide behavioral respite care rather than medical nursing. Parents remain nearby to manage specialized medical needs or emergencies.
How do we apply for a stay?
Start by filling out our online Parent Intake Questionnaire. Our team will review it to ensure a safe, beneficial fit for everyone.
